As vice president of operations for Tri Pointe Homes in Florida, Jason Carter stands at the forefront of one of the nation’s most ambitious housing expansions. Tasked with helping to launch the company’s first division in the state and guiding its entry into a highly competitive market, Carter and his team have become the driving force behind Tri Pointe’s newest chapter. His leadership, grounded in hands-on experience and a servant-leadership philosophy, is helping shape not just a new division but a culture that reflects Tri Pointe’s national reputation for innovation, quality, and community building.

Jason Carter | Tri Pointe Homes | VP, Operations
Tri Pointe Homes, one of the largest homebuilders in the U.S. and a publicly traded company on the NYSE, builds premium homes and communities in 12 states. The company is recognized for its customer experience, forward-thinking design, and environmentally responsible business practices. Combining the strength and resources of a national organization with the insight and agility of empowered local teams, Tri Pointe has earned Builder of the Year honors multiple times and was named to Fortune’s 100 Fastest-Growing Companies list in 2017. Its approach emphasizes not just building houses but designing neighborhoods and experiences that inspire and uplift customers, team members, and the communities they serve.
For Carter, the company’s expansion into Florida represents more than a business milestone—it’s the realization of a lifelong connection to construction and leadership.
From family roots to leadership roles
Family and early exposure to the trades shaped Carter’s career. He represents the fourth generation in his family to work in residential construction, and from a young age, job sites became both playground and classroom. The physicality of building, the camaraderie among crews, and the satisfaction of seeing a project rise from blueprint to completion formed a foundation that would guide him throughout his life.

After playing quarterback in college and serving as team captain in multiple sports, leadership came naturally.
“Being a leader is something I’ve always gravitated toward,” Carter says. “I didn’t know it would lead me here, but it’s always been who I am.”
That mindset carried into his early professional years, where he began on the ground level—literally. He started sweeping floors, punching out homes, and installing permit boards before working his way up through the construction management ranks. Those early lessons in humility and persistence continue to inform his leadership style today.
Before joining Tri Pointe, Carter spent years managing projects across single-family and multifamily developments. The satisfaction of helping people achieve homeownership—and the joy that comes with it—never lost its meaning. Along the way, mentors played a major role in his growth, and now, he’s determined to pay that forward by fostering a new generation of construction professionals who see the industry as both craft and calling.
Building a new foundation in Orlando
When Tri Pointe set its sights on Florida, Carter was among the first leaders tapped to make it happen. His mandate was as clear as it was challenging: establish a division office in Orlando, recruit and develop a talented team, and ensure that Tri Pointe’s first projects in the state set a standard for design and quality. For Carter, it wasn’t just about opening doors; it was about building a foundation that would last.

“It’s been a very exciting time for the company,” he says. “We’re just getting started, but we’re already seeing strong interest from both trade partners and potential team members who want to be part of what we’re building here.”
In an industry facing increasing competition for skilled labor, Tri Pointe’s culture has become a key differentiator. Carter and his leadership team take an intentional approach to hiring, prioritizing cultural fit and long-term alignment over quick hires.
“We’re unique on the hiring side,” he explains. “We want to find the right person, not just someone to fill a role.”
Each candidate goes through a thorough vetting process that can take up to 90 days and includes multiple team interactions, from lunch meetings to office tours.
That office—an impressive space in Orlando that Tri Pointe invested over a million dollars to build—serves as both workplace and statement of commitment.
“We’re proud of it,” Carter says. “When people come through, whether they’re trade partners or job candidates, they can see we’re here to stay.”
This deliberate, people-first approach has paid off. The team is now fully operational and preparing to break ground on Tri Pointe’s first Florida development in New Smyrna Beach, a project Carter views as the perfect embodiment of the company’s vision.
The New Smyrna Beach project: Setting the standard
Set less than half a mile from the beach, Tri Pointe’s inaugural Florida community in New Smyrna represents both a showcase of craftsmanship and a statement of intent. Spread across 7 acres, the development will feature 75 townhomes in 15 buildings, each designed with the elevated aesthetic and functionality that have become Tri Pointe’s hallmark.

At approximately 2,200 square feet each, the three-story townhomes will start in the high $600,000s. They will feature high-end finishes, including quartz countertops, optional elevators and modern design elements that appeal to the market’s growing number of younger, tech-savvy buyers. Amenities will include a pool, an open-air pavilion, and a barbecue area.
“We’re a premium builder, and we ask a premium for our homes,” Carter says. “We deliver a premium lifestyle brand, which is the lens we use to evaluate where we build, what we build and how we craft an overall experience for our customers that creates higher perceived value, and this project reflects that.”
The company’s approach to community planning goes beyond aesthetics. Tri Pointe relies on local market research, buyer surveys, and design workshops to ensure its projects align with regional tastes and lifestyles. Relationships with top designers and trade partners ensure every detail—from layout to lighting—is grounded in data, creativity, and craftsmanship.
“There’s so much information out there, and we use it all to make smarter decisions,” Carter explains. “It’s about understanding what buyers want and delivering that consistently.”
Construction on the New Smyrna Beach community is set to begin this fall, but it’s only the beginning. A 178-home single-family development is planned for 2026, followed by another 288 homes in 2027. For Carter, these numbers represent more than growth targets—they reflect the trust Tri Pointe is building in a new market and the opportunity to create meaningful impact in Florida communities.
“None of this work would be possible without the tremendous support of our trade partners and vendors and the partnerships we continue to create and foster in Florida and across the company,” Carter says.
Leading by example
Carter’s leadership philosophy centers on service, humility, and accountability. “Treat others as you want to be treated” isn’t just a personal mantra; it’s a management principle he instills in his team. Whether he’s mentoring a new hire or navigating a complex project, he emphasizes the importance of preparation, communication, and setting clear expectations.

“If I take an hour out of my day now, it saves a lot of heartache later,” he says. “You can’t just put people in positions to fill spots. You must set clear expectations, cast vision, and explain the ‘why’ behind the ‘what.’”
That mindset is particularly relevant in an industry facing generational change. Carter has seen firsthand how younger professionals approach careers differently, seeking rapid advancement and flexible roles. His approach balances patience and transparency, helping them understand the value of growth earned over time.
“I let new hires know that I wasn’t handed this position,” he says. “You don’t get what isn’t earned.” “You must bloom where you’re planted, and the achievements will come.”
As the Orlando division matures, Carter continues to invest in his people, creating pathways for advancement and fostering an environment of collaboration and respect. He views himself not as a boss but as a facilitator—someone who clears obstacles so his team can succeed.
“I’m still growing and still learning,” he admits. “I thrive on change and accept challenges. Adaptation is necessary, and we’re always evolving.”
That adaptability will serve him and Tri Pointe well as they deepen their presence in Florida. Each project, each new hire, and each satisfied homeowner represents another step toward solidifying the company’s place in the market.
For Carter, Tri Pointe’s expansion isn’t just a corporate initiative—it’s personal. It connects to his roots in construction, his passion for leadership, and his belief that homebuilding is ultimately about improving lives. The New Smyrna Beach community, with its blend of design sophistication and local authenticity, is a testament to that belief.
With a growing team, a robust pipeline of projects, and a commitment to excellence, Carter is helping ensure that Tri Pointe’s Florida story is one of sustained success.
“At the end of the day, we’re in the life-changing business,” he says. “We’re not just building homes—we’re creating places where people live, grow, and make memories. That’s what keeps me excited.”
