Chris Pulver – SafeSource Direct

Leading on stage & on site

Chris Pulver knows how to take the lead—whether at the front of a stage as the lead singer of The Stone Sober Band or overseeing a major construction project as the Director of Construction for SafeSource Direct. It’s not as different as it might seem. Both roles require motivating a team, ensuring everyone is on the same page, and delivering the best possible performance.

“The common connector between leading a band and leading a team is making sure everyone is motivated and working together to produce the best product,” Pulver says. “Whether it’s a band or project team, the goal is the same: maximize and optimize their abilities to deliver the best results.”

Pulver’s dual passion for music and leadership makes him a unique force at SafeSource Direct, where he’s helping the company meet its ambitious goal of bringing medical-grade nitrile glove manufacturing to America. While he’s used to being under the bright lights on stage, his focus now is on the industrial lights illuminating SafeSource’s new Broussard, Louisiana facility—a monumental project to secure America’s independence in personal protective equipment (PPE) manufacturing.

Building accountability and collaboration

At the heart of Pulver’s approach to leadership is building a culture of accountability. With years of experience on both sides of the fence—as a contractor and an owner—he understands that successful projects require collaboration and transparency. To achieve that, he emphasizes the importance of open communication and teamwork.

“We don’t think about ‘good’ or ‘bad’ news here—just news. It’s all about getting to the facts without finger-pointing so we can find solutions,” Pulver explains. “Creating an environment where everyone feels responsible and informed drives efficiency and keeps projects moving forward.”

His commitment to accountability is rooted in a simple but powerful philosophy: ownership and transparency. Whether dealing with suppliers or coordinating with contractors, Pulver insists on honesty and openness at every project stage. This approach fosters collaboration and eliminates any sense of division among team members.

“When everyone feels like they are in it together, there’s no reason to hold back or cover up mistakes,” Pulver says. “That’s how you learn and improve.”

SafeSource Direct, in partnership with Ochsner Health, was founded in response to the COVID-19 pandemic when the country’s reliance on foreign-produced PPE became glaringly evident. The company set out with a mission: to ensure that America can rely on domestically manufactured PPE, including nitrile gloves, masks, gowns and more. Located strategically near Broussard, Louisiana—close to navigable waterways, rail lines and interstate highways—SafeSource is positioned to ship products nationwide.

Bringing manufacturing back to the USA

The Broussard facility is a critical milestone in SafeSource Direct’s vision of revitalizing domestic manufacturing. The new chemical production plant, which broke ground recently, will be the first of its kind, providing essential chemical components to support not just SafeSource’s nitrile glove manufacturing but also other glove manufacturers across the country.

“COVID showed us how vulnerable we were, relying on overseas supply chains for crucial PPE,” Pulver says. “We’re changing that by building a viable, long-term business rooted here in America. We aim to provide the most reliable supply chain for medical-grade gloves nationwide.”

The 15-acre project is scheduled for completion by mid-2026 and is expected to create around 1,200 jobs in Louisiana across all of SafeSource’s operations. This also highlights SafeSource Direct’s broader mission to promote economic independence by diminishing America’s reliance on foreign manufacturing. Additionally, there are plans to include an innovative rail spur to streamline transportation, which is crucial for maintaining efficiency as production increases.

Pulver notes that the project’s location near essential chemical suppliers is an intentional and strategic choice.

“We have every chemical we need within an hour’s drive, which minimizes logistics challenges and keeps costs down,” he explains. By securing federal and state support, SafeSource ensures that the rail infrastructure meets future demands.

The (rail)road ahead

Pulver’s journey with SafeSource Direct is just beginning, but he’s already making a lasting impact. As he continues to steer the company’s construction efforts, he’s also reinforcing his belief in fostering creativity within his team—just like in his music.

“Whether it’s a song or a construction plan, I want people to be creative and make it their own,” Pulver shares. “That’s how you build something truly unique and lasting.”

In his free time, Pulver finds solace in the outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, he often spends time in nature with his three sons and grandkids.

“That’s where I recharge,” he says.

Married for 33 years, Pulver credits his family and faith for keeping him grounded amid his demanding career.

“God, family and everything else—that’s the order,” he reflects.

His musical journey, which includes recording an album titled “My American Way,” also reflects his passion and dedication. He first recorded and released the title track, then recorded and released the album months later. Nelson Blanchard performed all recording, mixing and mastering in Baton Rouge at Techno Sound Studio.

With a foundation rooted in accountability and collaboration and a clear vision of bringing manufacturing back to the United States, Pulver’s leadership hits all the right notes. Whether playing guitar on stage or coordinating the build of a cutting-edge production facility, Pulver’s passion and dedication are evident in every endeavor.

When companies like SafeSource Direct expand at speed, securing strong HR and people-operations leadership becomes mission-critical — driving demand for executive search & HR leadership hiring support.
